Welcome to the Georgia Nurse Honor Guard Website

The Georgia Nurse Honor Guard was established in January 2024 to help connect those requesting an honor guard service in the state of Georgia with the appropriate chapter. In addition, we are here to help inspire and assist others to start chapters in areas without coverage. Georgia currently has 19 local chapters.

All member groups in the Georgia Nurse Honor Guard network are funded through donations, and not associated with any corporation or entity.

THERE IS NO CHARGE TO THE FAMILY FOR SERVICES

If you are in need of the services of a Nurse Honor Guard chapter, please refer to our map page. It contains a map (by county) of the areas served by each chapter as well as contact info for each group.

This map shows the service area of each of our active Nurse Honor Guard groups in Georgia by county.

Who We Are

The Nurse Honor Guard is a national, state, and local volunteer organization that pays tribute to the nurse at the time of their death by performing the Nightingale Tribute and Final Call of Duty at the funeral, memorial, or graveside service. This ceremony is similar to a military tribute (without guns) and officially releases the nurse from their nursing duties.

The Nightingale Tribute is a five-minute ceremony that is performed free of charge by a nursing colleague during the deceased nurse’s funeral service. The tribute consists of reciting the Nightingale Tribute and laying a white rose on the casket or next to the urn, symbolizing the nurse’s dedication to the profession.
After the Nightingale Tribute is recited, a chime is rung after a roll call for our colleague. The nurse’s name is called three times and the chime is rung after each call of the nurse’s name. After the final roll call, the words are spoken that the nurse is officially released from their nursing duties.
A lit Nightingale lamp is carried up at the beginning of the ceremony and is then extinguished and presented to the family. The tribute offers fellow nurses an opportunity to commemorate and recognize their colleague’s work while honoring that nurse’s unique contribution and dedication to the nursing profession.

MAY 12 DESIGNATED GEORGIA NURSE HONOR GUARD DAY!
